Seasons 1-8 are when shippers place bids on two shipments via UShip in a reverse auction format. Bids are typically made with remarks about the probable costs and potential risks along with the motivations and skills. If the time-limit of an auction has expired, the job is typically assigned to the bidder with the lowest bid; at the client's discretion however, it can be awarded to a higher bidder that has a better average feedback rating from previous clients. Feedback ratings can be used to break tie for the bidder with the lowest. Season 9 sees shippers receiving their loads from a shipping agency. Bidding isn't documented. Shippers load their cargo and try to deliver it in perfect order by the deadline set by the buyer or the receiver. When the cargo is delivered, clients leave feedback ratings. Then, at the end of the episode, each shipper's revenue is calculated on-screen, with the expenses (fuel as well as labor, late-delivery penalties fines, etc.) subtracted from the bid amount to calculate the overall revenue or loss. Sometimes, a shipper will offer to haul an additional load during the same trip adding the extra cash into their tally. The shipper might not be able to finish the task due to safety issues or the size of the load. On occasion, one shipper might enlist the assistance of another to help complete the job. The two shippers will then determine which way to divide the profits. In the first eight seasons, the progress of each shipment is interspersed by humorous critiques from other shippers.
